For the Health of Higher-Weight Kids – Understanding the AAP Guidelines

$25.00

A webinar for professionals by Ragen Chastain, MEd, BCPA

February of 2023 The American Academy of Pediatrics put forth guidelines for higher-weight youth that recommended intensive lifestyle interventions starting at age 2, weight loss drugs starting at age 12, and weight loss surgeries starting at age 13. Immediately, eating disorders, weight-neutral health, and fat activism communities began sounding the alarm around the danger of these guidelines to higher-weight children and their families.  In this webinar we’ll examine the guidelines, including conflicts of interest, the research cited to attempt to support the recommendations, and ethical concerns. Finally, we’ll discuss how the Satter Division of Responsibility in Feeding can be used as a weight-neutral, do no harm approach to support the health of kids of all sizes.

Approved for 1.0 Level II CEUs from the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
